ABOUT TOYGIANTS:
Meeting the collector Selim Varol and seeing his more than 10,000
toy figures inspired artist duo Daniel (born 1966) and Geo Fuchs (born
1969) to create their latest photo series: »Toygiants«. Following the
successful exhibition in the Museum Villa Stuck in Munich in 2006,
which predominantly showed political characters, this lavishly designed
picture series offers a unique insight into the wide range of
extraordinary plastic »heroes« and fantasy figures.
»Toys« like Batman and Bruce Willis, Japanese Manga superstars and designer vinyls,
but also Osama Bin Laden and Hitler are primarily manufactured in
Asia and sold and traded internationally as collector’s items.
For more than 3 Years the two artists shot the »Toys« as portraits or
in groups. Together with the collector they began to play with their
subjects and generated partly grotesque, partly explosive references
until nearly 1000 of the »Toys« developed a life of their own, an
unnerving second life, now revealed in »TOYGIANTS«.

A review of TOYGIANTS
While other books have taken a more cataloguing approach to showcasing the creations of the toy world, TOYGIANTS has put the art back into art toys. From portraits of effigies of Rambo, Hitler and Andy Warhol to epic 'class of' images grouped by colour and beautiful dioramas that bring together toys that wouldn't normally rub shoulders, Daniel & Geo Fuchs' shots are eye candy of the finest quality.
The project itself took three years to complete and called upon the 10,000-strong collection of Selim Varol - without doubt one of the finest in the world. Combining Daniel and Geo's photographic talents with Selim's envy-inducing vinyl horde was a match made in heaven. And expanding on their 2006 exhibition at the Museum Villa Stuck in Munich, this 216-page tome - featuring no less than five foldout pages - brings their efforts to the masses.
The breadth and depth of vinyl on display is unrivalled. There aren't many places you'll see the full lineage of KAWS. Well almost a full lineage. The pace he's been releasing things at, keeping up is an impossibility. And to be fair with TOYGIANTS, that's not the point. As said before, this not a catalogue. It's a work of art. One that should adorn all our coffee tables. But enough rambling, for once pictures do paint a thousand words. Which from a writer is the highest compliment there is.
TOYGIANTS is available now in hardback in a regular edition of 2500 (€49/$65) or as a signed, numbered and stamped boxed edition of 500 which includes one of ten prints by the artists (€299/$399). If you want all ten prints, a portfolio version of the latter is also available (€2500/$3300).
